A wave in which the particles move perpendicularly to the direction the wave travels. (up & down) Transverse
The highest point of a wave. crest
The lowest point in a wave trough
A wave in which the particles move back and forth in the same direction the wave travels. Longitudinal

point in the medium through which a wave is traveling that has the lowest density (particles are farthest apart/spread out) rarefraction
The resting point of a wave equilibrium
The measure of how far the particles in the medium move away from their normal rest position. Amplitude
The distance from any point on a wave to an identical point on the next wave. wavelength
How many cycles of a wave occur in a given amount of time. Frequency
