Computer Basics Voc

TermDefinition
Delete To erase a file from a computer.
Desktop publishing The use of a software application to combine page layout and design features (text and artwork) to produce documents. (e.g., newsletters, posters, brochures, business cards, Web pages, greeting cards, etc.)
File Management A program on a computer that provides tools and allows the user to search for, manage, create, edit, view, print, rename, copy, or delete files or folders.
Folder A container used to store, manage, and organize files.
Hardware The physical components (machine, wires, etc.) that make up the system unit plus the peripheral devices connected to it.
Input device Enters data and commands into the computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, touch screen, microphone, webcam, etc.).
Operating system System software that acts as a "go-between", allowing the user, computer hardware, and other software to communicate with each other (e.g., Windows 10, Mac OS, Chrome OS, iOS, etc.).
Output device Allows the user to view or listen to the data a computer processes (e.g., monitor, printer, headphones, speakers, etc.).
Peripherals Additional hardware that isn't necessary for a computer to function, but does enhance how the computer can be used.
Presentation An application that allows the user to create and save slides to use as a slide show.
Rename To change the title of a file.
Save To store data to access at a later time.
Software Instructions or programs for controlling the computer.
Spreadsheet A grid of rows and columns containing numbers, text, and formulas used to perform calculations.
Storage device External hardware used to store and retrieve data, such as a hard drive, flash drive, optical disk, or memory card.
Word processing The use of software application to create, edit, format, print and save text-based documents, such as letters, reports, and memos.
