Constitutional Law rights carved out in the federal and state constitutions
Statutory Law the term used to define written laws, usually enacted by a legislative body
Administrative Law the body of law that regulates the operation and procedures of government agencies.
Civil Law the system of law concerned with private relations between members of a community rather than criminal, military, or religious affairs.
Criminal Law a system of law concerned with the punishment of those who commit crimes.
Procedural Law comprises the rules by which a court hears and determines what happens in civil lawsuit, criminal or administrative proceedings
Substantive Law defines rights and duties, such as crimes and punishments in the criminal law and civil rights and responsibilities in civil law
Business Law encompasses all of the laws that dictate how to form and run a business
Stare decisis the legal principle of determining points in litigation according to precedent
Law the system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
Common Law the part of English law that is derived from custom and judicial precedent rather than statutes. Often contrasted with statutory law.
Ordinance a piece of legislation enacted by a municipal authority.
Civil Disobedience the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest.
Jurisdiction the official power to make legal decisions and judgments
Statute a written law passed by a legislative body.
Case Law the law as established by the outcome of former cases
Ethics moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior.
Constitution a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.
Code a system of words, letters, figures, or other symbols substituted for other words, letters, etc., especially for the purposes of secrecy.
Equity the quality of being fair and impartial.
