Characteristics of Sociology: / they both make the individual be aware of themselves at all times and make them disciplined so they dot fall into social ruts. |
Differentiate the natural sciences, social sciences, and sociology: | Natural Science: study the physical features of nature, Social Science: study social features of humans, Sociology: studies the ways people interact and shape society. |

Give an example of an operational definition: | A sociologist interested in status might use membership in exclusive social clubs as an operational definition of status. |
Explain the relationship between hypotheses and variables: | The Variable is the supporting evidence for the hypothesis. It will be tested to see if the hypothesis is true or not. |
Distinguish correlation from cause: | Correlation: exist when change in one variable coincides with change in another Casual Logic: involved relationships between a condition or variable and particular consequences with one event leading to the other. |

Explain the sociological meaning of culture: | culture is learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects, and behavior. Includes ideas values, customs, and artifacts of groups of people. |
Compare and contrast ethnocentrism and cultural relativism: | Ethnocentrism: the tendency to assume that ones own culture is superior to others Cultural Relativism: peoples behaviors from the perspective of their own culture. |
Recognize the difference between sociobiological and cultural explanations of human social behavior: | Sociobiology: the study of how biology affects social behavior Cultural Explanations: is based on genes and how they are passed down to generation from generation. |
Explain the processes by which culture develops and spreads: | Culture is learned from generation to generation and is based on where you live and it spreads by diffusion and human interaction. |
Describe the influence of language on culture: | Language is a way of communication and it describes culture and shapes it. Through verbal communication, and non-verbal communication. |
Distinguish between norms and values: | Norms: standard of behavior maintained by society Values: conception of what is considered good or bad. |

Describe and identify examples of shared and conflicting global values: | We share the same livestock but some are considered conflicting in some countries. Cows are considered Holy in India, in the US they are eaten. The swastika is conflicting in Germany but is sacred in Thai Land. |
Explain how subcultures and countercultures relate to the dominant culture: | They all came from the same dominant culture, but they separated to their own ways of life. Subculture are respective and counter culture say you must change to their ways. |
Analyze through a sociological lens the implications of bilingualism on social policy: | Bilingualism should only be used in a particular setting such as schools and workplace. The languages should be spoken equally. |
