What are the principles of design? Balance, rhythm, proportion, emphasis, harmony
What is the principle repetition? Using the same object multiple times in a room
How does texture affect color? It can make the color look lighter or darker.
What do curved lines suggest? Curved lines suggest gentle motions and comfort.
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Horizontal balance is when objects are evenly placed above and below each other. Vertical balance is when they're evenly placed to the left and right of one another. Radial balance is when they're evenly placed around a center point.
What do diagonal lines suggest? Movement and excitement
What is space? Space is the room or area where furniture can be placed and elements and principles of design can be utilized.
What are the four types of rhythm? Repetition, Radiation, Gradation,
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? Asymmetrical balance is when objects on either side of a room or feature balance each other out, like a big vase of flowers on one side of the table and two smaller potted plants on the other side.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Horizontal lines are parallel to the ground and vertical lines are perpendicular to the ground.
What is the golden mean? It's a 3 to 5 ratio.
What is the difference between shape and form? Shape is 2-D and form is 3-D
What are the five types of balance? Asymmetrical, Symmetrical, Horizontal, Vertical, Radial
What does unity or harmony mean? It's how well all of the elements and properties of design work together in a room.
What are the two things that texture involves? How it looks and how it feels
What are the four types of line? Diagonal, Horizontal, Vertical, and Curved
What is proportion? Proportion is how the size of objects relate to one another and is how the design is visually divided.
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? Asymmetrical balance
What is symmetrical balance? Example? Symmetrical balance is when the same objects are used on either side of a room or feature, like putting two identical vases on either side of a fireplace mantle.
What is emphasis? What's another name for it? Emphasis is when one object or feature in the room stands out. it can also be known as a focal point.
What happens when you use a continuous line? It draws your eye around the room and makes the room seem wider and longer.
What is another name for symmetrical balance? Formal balance
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? Informal balance
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is gradually changing in size or color, and radiation is when objects are equal distance from a center point.
