Flexion AG Position | (S) seated w/arm relaxed to the side of bod & hand facing backward |
Flexion AG Stabilize | Over shoulder being tested, but allow normal abduction & upward rotation of scapula |
Flexion AG Palpate | Anterior deltoid, coracobrachialis, supraspinatus |
Flexion AG Observe | (S) flexes shoulder joint to 90 degrees of flexion |
Flexion AG Resist | At distal end of humerus downward toward shoulder extension |
Flexion AG Substitutions | Shoulder abductors, trunk extension |
Flexion GD Position | (S) side-lying position. side being tested is superior |
Flexion GD Stabilize | Over shoulder to be tested |
Flexion GD Palpate | Anterior deltoid, coracobrachialis, supraspinatus |
Flexion GD Observe | (S) flexes shoulder joint to 90 degrees flexion |
Extension AG Position | (S) seated w/ shoulder joint adducted & internally rotated w/ palms facing up |

Extension AG Palpate | Latissimus dorsi, teres major, posterior deltoid |

Extension AG Resist | At distal end of humerus & push downward toward flexion |

Extension GD Position | (S) side lying, (E) stands behind (S) |

External rotation AG Substitution | Scapula rotation combined w/ downward rotation |
External rotation GD Position | (S) seated w/ arm adducted; in neutral rotation at shoulder, elbow flexed to 90 degrees w/ forearm in neutral position |
External rotation GD Stabilize | Arm against trunk at distal end of humerus |
External rotation GD Palpate | Infraspinatus, teres minor |
External rotation GD Observe | (S) moves forearm away from body by rotating humerus while maintaining neutral position of forearm |
Internal rotation AG Position | (S) lying prone w/ humerus abducted to 90 degrees & supported on table, elbow flexed to 90 degrees w/ forearm dangling over edge of table |
Internal rotation AG Stabilize | Humerus at elbow to allow only rotation |
