Rugadh é i gCalifornia,, ach nuair a thosaíonn an scéal tá sé sa Mhuir Artach lena mhuintir. He was born in California , but when the story starts he is in the Artic Ocean with his family.
Tá áthas air. He is happy
Tá sé ag baint an-taitneamh as an saol, ag súgradh ar an oighear agus ag ithe leis na míolta móra eile. He is enjoying life, playing on the ice and eating with the others whales.
Níl a fhios aige, ná ag na míolta móra eile, go bhfuil siad i mbaol. He or the other whales don’t know they are in danger.
Nuair a théann siad suas chun aer a fháil tá daoine ag fanacht leo le harpúin, agus maraítear roinnt acu, tuismitheoirí Chalua ina measc. When they go up for air people are waiting for them with harpoons, and some of them are killed, Calua’s parents included.
Tá Calua fágtha leis féin, eagla na domhain air agus gan aon chréatúr ann a chabhródh leis. Calua is left scared on his own without any creature to help him.
Téann sé i bhfolach faoin oighear, ach tar éis tamaill tá air dul suas chun aer a fháil. He goes into hiding under the ice, but after a while he has to go up for air.
Téann sé ar ais go dtí an áit ina raibh sé leis na míolta móra eile, ach níl aon cheann acu ann. He goes back to the place the other whales were, but none of them are there.
Tá uaigneas agus brón air. He is lonely and sad.
Chuir an scéal seo brón orm, toisc go bhfuil daoine ag marú míolta móra. This story made me sad because people were killing the whales.
