Mythology | A collection of stories about gods and heroes that try to explain how the world works |

Pericles | An elected leader of Athens, was brilliant and encouraged people to participate in the government |
Homer | A great Greek poet that created some of the earliest Greek writings such as the Iliad and Odyssey |
Socrates | A teacher and great thinker. He believed that people should never stop looking for knowledge. |
Plato | A philosopher taught by the famous Socrates |
Democracy | A type of government in which people rule. Demos - People; cracy - rule Democracy = People rule (Athens Democracy was born) |
Oligarchy | A type of government in which only a few people have power (Sparta ruled by 2 kings) |
Tyrant | A leader who held power through the use of force |
