Audio Editing Vocab

TermDefinition
Clip A brief recorded file, linked to a website or to an electronic message, used to relay audible information from one user to another
Decibel a unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal by comparing it with a given level on a logarithmic scale
Noise usually unwanted sound
Export to save (documents, data, etc.) in a format usable by another software program
AUP the editing file for audio
Hertz the SI unit of frequency
Mixing the process by which multiple sounds are combined into one or more channels
Podcast a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically
Track a recording of one song or piece of music
Effect artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes
Sample Rate the number of samples of audio carried per second, measured in Hz or kHz
WAV, AIFF, MP3 files of a finished product of an audio
Amplify to increase the volume of sound
LAME an encoder that converts audio to the MP3 file format
Pitch the quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations producing it
Trim to adjust the level of the input signal as it enters the home recording sound mixer
