Letter Parts

TermDefinition
Body Contains information you are writing in your letter
Heading Part of a letter that includes the writer's address (Street, City, State, Zip Code); Also called return address
Modified Block A style of letter in which some lines start at the center of the page
Signature Line Your typed name
Signature Your handwritten name
Inside Address The address of the person you are writing to;iIncludes name, title, street, city, state, and zip code
Letterhead Stationery that is used instead of the return address in a business letter and consists of the business' name, address, phone/fax/email, and logo
Complimentary Close The farewell of the letter; some examples are Sincerely, Yours truly, and Cordially,
Block Style A keying style for a letter or memo in which all the text is aligned at the left margin
Enclosure Notation A special notation at the end of a letter indicating that an item(s) is included with the letter
Reference Initials The initials of the person who keyed a memo or letter
Date Line Positioned below the letterhead (Inside Address) and contains the month, day, and year that letter was keyed
Salutation Word of greeting used to begin a letter such as "Dear",
CC Letter notation that let's recipient know that the letter has been sent to others; aka carbon copy
