Expressions and Equations - 7th Grade Math
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Algebraic Expression | a symbol or a combination of symbols used in algebra, containing one or more numbers, variables, and arithmetic operations |
Coefficient | A number multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression. Located in front of the variable in the form of multiplication |
Constant | A fixed value. Does not change. |
Equation | Contains an equal sign (=); A mathematical sentence that shows that two expressions are equivalent. |
Inequality | A statement that compares two quantities using <, >, ≤,≥, or ≠; A mathematical sentence indicating that two quantities are not equal. |
Term | a term is either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together; Terms are separated by + or − signs |
Numerical Expression | An expression that contains only numbers and operations |
Variable | A letter or symbol used to represent an unknown value in math; A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change |
Distributive Property | The sum of two addends multiplied by a number is the sum of the product of each addend and the number. Example: a(b+c)= ab + ac |
