hemisphere halves of Earth
equator imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres
prime meridian imaginary line that divides Earth into the Western and Eastern Hemispheres
relative location where a place is in relation to other places on Earth
border a line that shows the end of a place
gulf a part of an ocean or a sea that reaches into the land
landform re features such as mountains, hills, valleys, and plains that make up Earth’s surface
sea level level of the land that's with the surface of the ocean
plateau a high, flat area of land
source where a river begins
mouth where a river empties into a larger body of water (end of river)
tributary a river or stream that flows into a larger river
basin a low, bowl-shaped land with higher ground around it
canyon a deep, narrow valley with steep sides
elevation the height of the land above sea level
temperature how hot or cold the air is
precipitation water that falls to Earth’s surface as rain, sleet, or snow
climate the kind of weather a place has over along time
humidity moisture in the air
natural resource something found in nature that people can use, such as water, soil, and trees
renewable resources that CAN be replaced and used again
nonrenewable resources that CANNOT be replaced or would take thousands of years to replace
groundwater water that sinks beneath Earth’s surface when it rains or snows
industry the businesses that make one kind of product or provide one kind of service
mineral natural substances found in rocks such as copper, gold, and silver
environment the surroundings in which people, plants, and animals live
conservation protecting of natural resources and using them wisely
