The Jesuits | The Society of Jesus. They attempted to convert Protestants back to Catholicism |
The Inquisition | The Church court that arrested and put on trial suspected heretics. |
Heresy | a belief that contradicts the teachings of the Church. |
Auto da fé | an act of faith that often involved burning heretics at the stake. |
Sanbenito | wearing of a yellow cloak as a form of punishment during the Inquisition |
