Libel Publishing false information about someone in order to cause harm
Slander Speaking false information about someone in order to cause harm
Civil Liberties Basic freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution protecting citizens from government harm
Civil Rights Guarantees of the government to treat all citizens equally under the law
Symbolic Speech Nonverbal freedoms of speech and expression
Double Jeopardy Trying someone for the same crime twice.
Bail Money given to the court in exchange for release until a trial begins
Self-incrimination Being forced to admit or imply your own guilt
Eminent Domain Government cannot take private property for public use without just compensation.
Capital Punishment The death penalty
Unenumerated Rights Rights of citizens that go beyond those not listed in the Constitution
First amendment Free speech, religion, assembly, petitions, press
Second amendment Right to bear arms
Third amendment No forced quartering of soldiers in a private dwelling
Fourth amendment No illegal searches and seizures without a legal warrant
Fifth amendment Rights of the accused, double jeopardy, eminent domain
Sixth amendment Right to legal council
Seventh amendment Rights to a jury in civil cases
Eighth amendment No cruel and unusual punishment or excessive bail
Ninth amendment Rights not listed go to the people
Tenth amendment Rights not listed go to the states or the people
