CNS Stimulants | xanthines | theophylline,(10-20 mcg/ml) caffeine | is a bronchiodialtor, the onset is slow and it is used for prevention. caffeine is a natural xanthine. SE: N/V, anorexia, tachycardia, palpation, vent. dysrhythmia. Cont indc.- allergy, seizures, peptic ulcers, hyperthyroidism, cardiac dysrhythmias. | Can't be given w/ allopurinol, cimetidine, erythromycin, flu vaccine, or oral contr. bc they increase the levels and can't be given with st. johns wort. BE carefule in geriatric pt bc they have and increased risk for toxicity. s/s- N,V, insomnia, tremors. |
