What is an Autocracy? A government in which one person has all the power. aka "Rule by One"
What is an Absolute Monarchy? Government ruled by a king and or queen, rule is passed down from generation to generation.
What is a Constitutional Monarchy? Ruled by a 'monarch' in the limitations of a constitution.
What is a Dictatorship? Only one person is in charge of everything, no one has any input whatsoever.
What main form of government includes: Absolute Monarchy, Constitutional Monarchy, and Dictatorship? Autocracy.
What is an Oligarchy? When a small group of people have all of the power. "Rule by Few"
What is an Aristocracy? Rule by those of the highest social class, the wealthiest are in charge.
What is a Theocracy? Rule by religious leaders, laws from God.
What main form of government includes: Aristocracy and Theocracy? Oligarchy.
What is a Democracy? When the citizens hold all the power. "Rule by all"
What is a Direct Democracy? Everyone gets a say, everyone has a vote towards law.
What is a Representative Democracy? This is built around the constitution, officials are elected in order to uphold it.
What is an Anarchy? No form of government whatsoever. This would be complete chaos.
Citizens elect representatives to sit in two different lawmaking assemblies. But citizens also vote several times a year to decide on laws. Citizens can propose their own laws or undo those passed by the rep. All citizens may vote directly on these laws. Direct Democracy and Representative Democracy
From 1948-1994, official policy in South Africa gave white people all the political power. Even though the majority of South Africans were black, non-whites couldn't influence gov. White people elected reps. to sit in a lawmaking body. Aristocracy and Representative Democracy
One man leads North Korea and controls its gov. He also controls its ruling political party. The ruling party chooses candidates for an Assembly, and citizens vote. The candidates do not have opponents, so citizens have no choices Dictatorship
Saudi Arabia is led by a king. The king appoints a Council of Ministers to help govern, but there are no elections. Saudi Arabia's Basic Law states that the country's constitution is the Islamic holy the Qur'an and other religious traditions. Constitutional Monarchy and Theocracy
The people of Denmark elect representatives to sit in Parliament, a law making body. The Queen of Denmark heads the country, but she only has a small role in government. The government is led by a prime minister, who is appointed from the elected reps. Constitutional Monarchy and Representative Democracy
Brazil is led by a president who is elected by the citizens. Citizens in Brazil elect a new president every four years. Citizens also elect representatives to serve in two different legislative bodies. Representative Democracy
