TermDefinition
American System - the idea that the U.S. should have a protective tariff, a national bank, and a plan for internal improvements (such as roads and canals)
Common man - the average, everyday type of person
Reservations - pieces of land where Native Americans were sent to live
Resettlement - a group of people moving their lives and homes from one place to another
Spoils system - the idea that whoever wins the Presidential election should get to appoint his people to government positions and jobs
States' rights - the idea that the states should have power over the federal government
Suffrage - the right to vote
Unqualified - not having the skill or ability to do something
Judicial review - the power of the Supreme Court to look at laws and court decisions and decide whether or not they are constitutional
Provision - a clause or an exception to a law that would apply only in a certain situation
