Failure to Thrive Condition in which a child fails to grow at a healthy rate.
Motor Development Use and control of muscles that direct body movements.
Gross Motor Skills Abilities to control and use large muscles.
Fine Motor Skills Abilities to control and use small muscles.
Age Norm Typical time when a developmental milestone, such as walking or talking occurs.
Crawling Moving by pulling with the arms, but not lifting the abdomen from the floor.
Creeping Moving by using the hands and knees or the hands and feet with the abdomen off the floor.
Cruising Walking by holding something for support.
Object concept Ability to understand that an object, person, or event is separate from one’s interaction with it.
Object identity Ability to understand that an object stays the same from one time to the next.
Object constancy Ability to understand that objects remain the same even if they appear different.
Anxiety fear of possible future events
Attachment closeness between people that remains overtime
Colic condition in which a baby has intense abdominal pain and cries
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome syndrome in which a baby dies without warning in his or her sleep
Ossification harding of bones caused by the depositing of the minerals calcium and phosphorus
Voluntary Grasping intentional grasping of objects
Mistrust most serious form of not trusting which includes a lack of trust and feelings of suspicion
Reduplication babbling repeating the same syllable over and over
Intellectual development how people learn, what they learn, and how they express what they know through language
Vocabulary words a person understands and uses
Disposition general mood of a person
