What causes day and night? the Earth's rotation
What does the sun appear to move across the sky during the day? The sun appears to move across the sky because the Earth is rotating.
How long does it take the Earth to rotate once to experience day and night? It takes 24 hours for the Earth to rotate once on its axis.
What causes the shadows to change throughout the day? The Earth's rotation on its axis causes the shadows to change as the sun appears to move across the sky.
What does the word REVOLVE mean? to orbit or to move around something
What does the Earth revolve around? the Earth revolves around the Sun
What does the Moon revolve around? the Moon revolves around the Earth
What causes one year on Earth? Earth's revolution around the Sun.
What causes the seasons? Earth's tilt AND revolution around the Sun.
What causes the rise and fall of the tides on Earth? the Moon's gravitational pull on the Earth
What is the Sun made of ? hot gases
Which has an atmosphere? Sun, Earth, or Moon? Sun and Earth
Which rotates on an axis? Sun, Earth, or Moon? Sun, Earth, and Moon
Why does the Moon have many more craters than the Earth has? The moon has more craters because it does NOT have an atmosphere to protect it from meteorites.
How are weather and climate different? Weather describes the what is happening over a short amount of time, and climate describes the weather from year to year and over a long amount of time.
How many years does climate data averages include? 30 years or more

Where does the most evaporation take place? the oceans
What heats up the water to make the water cycle keep going? heat from the Sun
What is the process called that changes water into water vapor? Evaporation
What is the process called that changes water vapor in the sky into clouds? Condensation
What happens to water from a lake after it is heated by the Sun? It evaporates and turns into water vapor
What is precipitation? rain, snow, sleet, or hail
After water falls to the ground and carried back to the ocean, what happens to the water? it continues through the water cycle.
What is the process called when water vapor from leaves evaporates to the sky? transpiration
