How can a manager use Maslow's theory? | Managers can identify where employees are on the hierarchy and implement strategies to satisfy the level they are on. Managers must understand that employees will be on different levels in the hierarchy. A variety of strategies must be implemented. |

What is meant by Clarity? | Clarity is ensuring that goals are clear and specific. |
What is meant by Challenge? | More challenging goals create a higher levels of motivation. However goals cannot be overwhelming. |
What is meant by Commitment? | Goals where the employee is committed to achieving the goal provide more motivation. Collaboratively setting goals can help drive commitment. |
What is meant by Feedback? | Regular feedback helps maintain momentum and keeps the employee on track towards the goal. |
What is meant by Task Complexity? | Tasks should not be so complex that the employee doesn't expect they can achieve it. |
What is the Four Drive theory? | The four drive theory states that there are four basic motivational needs that drive peoples emotions and behaviours. The four drives come from humans' evolutionary past. |
What are the four drives? | Acquire, Bond, Defend, Comprehend. |
What is the drive to acquire? | Where the individual is driven to gather material items (clothing, shelter and other material good). Individuals are also driven to acquire status, accomplishments and power. |
What is the drive to bond? | The individual is driven to seek strong working relationships within the business. Employees want to feel as though they 'belong' to the business. |
What is the drive to comprehend? | Employees are driven to learn and to be challenged in their role. There is a drive to have their curiosity satisfied. |
