What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have ACRID/PUNGENT taste? Yin Tase Actions: Disperse external pathogens and move blood and qi (can be drying). Conditions: Common cold, qi and blood stagnation. Example: Sheng jiang (ginger)
What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have SWEET taste? Yin Taste Actions: Regulate spleen, stomach; Moisten; Decrease spasm & pain; Harmonize. Conditions: Digestive problems;Dryness; Muscle cramps; Formulas with many herbs. Example: Gan cao (licorice)
What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have SOUR/ASTRINGENT taste? Yang Taste Actions: Correct abnormal leakage. Conditions: Sweating; Diarrhea; Discharge Example: Wu mei (sour plum).
What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have BITTERS taste? Yang Taste Actions: Clear heat; drain/purge fire; stop coughing & vomiting ; promote bowel movement; dry dampness. Conditions: Fever; Influenza; Constipation Enuresis. Example: Lu hui (aloe)
What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have SALTY taste? Yang Taste. Actions: Soften hardness; purge & relieve constipation; resolve masses. Conditions: Constipation due to impacted fecal matter; goiter or tumor. Example: Kun bu (kelp)
What are the general actions, indications, and properties of herbs that have BLAND taste? Yang Taste Actions: Promote urination; eliminate dampness. Conditions: Edema ; dysuria. Example: Fu ling (poria cocos)
