Coordinate Plane

TermDefinition
Coordinate Plane A plane containing two perpendicular axes that intersect at the origin.
Axis A reference line. We work with the "X" and "Y" axis.
Quadrant The 4 sections formed by the "X" and "Y" axis.
Ordered Pair A pair of numbers indicating a specific point on the coordinate plane.
Origin The point where the x and y axis intersect on the plane.
Horizontal Another name for the x axis OR going left to right.
Vertical Another name for the y axis OR going up and down.
X Coordinate The first number in an ordered pair.
Y Coordinate The second number in an ordered pair.
Coordinates A pair of numbers used to show a location on a map or on the coordinate plane.
