Lesson 1 Understanding Word
Term | Definition |

Backstage view | A tool that offers quick access to commands in file management tasks. |
Block style | Formats aligns text along the left margin |
Command | Is an instruction based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button or entering information into a command box |
Dialog Box | This displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command |
Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the the lower-right corner of the group |
Groups | Each tab contains several groups |
I-Beam | When you place your cursor near it, the insertion point changes to a large "I" |
Insertion Point | The blinking in the upper-left corner of a document is where you begin creating your text |
Menu | Small toolbar with popular commands that appears when you point to selected texts. |
Mixed Punctuation | This requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
Nonprinting characters | These are symbols for certain formatting commands |
Open Punctuation | This requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
Preview | The preview allows you to be able to see what your document will look like when it is printed, to allow you to know what you will need to change |
This command feature includes three sets of options: Print, Printer, and Settings | |
Quick Access Toolbar | Is located above the Ribbon and contains commands that users access most often |
Repeat | This command repeats your last action |
Ribbon | Contains multiple commands on seperate tabs |
Save | Clicking the Save button will save documents that have already been saved |
Save AS | Dialog box that will save a document in a specific form |
Settings | this is to control document-specific print parameters |
Tabs | Each tab contains multiple commands, several groups |
Template | This is a master document with predefined page layout, font, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting |
Undo | This command lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action |
White Space | This is the space between pages of the document |
Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
