Lesson 1 Understanding Word

Insertion point | The blinking insertion point in the upper-left corner of a document is where you begin creating your text. |

Mixed punctuation | Requires a colon after the salutation and a command after the closing |
Nonprinting characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands, such as paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces between words |
Open punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
Preview | Gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like, so you can correct errors before printing. |

White Space | The space between pages of the document |
Word Wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
