Term | Definition |

Backstage View | a screen that appears when you click the File tab in Word 2016; containing commands for managing the backstage view |
Command | an instruction based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button or entering into a command box; on the RIBBON |
Dialogue Box | a box that prompts the user for additional information when executing a command |
Dialogue Box Launcher | a small icon on the RIBBON that opens up a dialogue box related to that group |
Groups | collections of related Word commands |
I-Beam | when you place your cursor near the insertion point, it changes to a large "I" |
Block Style | format aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature |
Insertion Point | the blinking point in the upper-left corner of the document; where you begin creating your text |
Menu | a list of options |
Mixed Punctuation | requires a colon after salutation and a comma after the closing |
Non-printing Characters | symbols for certain formatting commands, such as paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces between words |
Open Punctuation | requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
Preview | the preview pane gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like, so you can correct errors before printing |

Quick Access Toolbar | located above the RIBBON; contains commands that users access most often |
Repeat | clicking the repeat command repeats your last action |
Ribbon | contains multiple commands on separate tabs |

Save As | appears as a command listed in Backstage View when you click the File Tab |
Settings | use the settings options to control document-specific print parameters |
Tabs | a label section of a RIBBON that contains a group or related tools |
Template | a master document with a predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting |
Undo | the undo command lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action |
White Space | the space between pages of the document |
Word Wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
