backstage view | the view that opens when you click the "File tab" and lets you access commands to control backstage files and print |
l-beam | when you put your cursor near the insertion point it changes to a large I |
ribbon | arrow that allows you to open something or close something |
command | an instruction based command that you perform by clicking a button or entering info into a command block |
dialog box | displays additional options or info you can use to execute a command |
dialog box launcher | small arrow in lower right-hand that allows you to launch a dialog box |
groups | collection of related word commands |
tab | labeled section of the ribbon that contains a group of related tools |
quick access toolbar | customizable toolbar that contains a set of commands that are independent of the tab on the ribbon currently on display |
block style | aligns the text with the left side of the margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, and signature |
Insertion point | in the upper left corner in the document where you start your text |
Menu | drop down menu that shows you all of the options |
Mixed punctuation | requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
Nonprinting characters | symbols for certain formatting commands like, ¶, → |
Open punctuation | requires no punctuation after the salutation or closing |
Preview | allows you to see what your printed document will look like |
Print options enable you to select the number of copies to be printed, to print only selected content, the current page, or a custom range of pages; and to select from a number of other options for printing properties, collation, and page layout | |
Repeat | repeats your last action |
Save | saves your current document |
Save As | makes a file for the document and when you save it save a current version of the document |
Settings | options you make to set document properties |
Template | master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles thats used to make new documents using the same formats |
Undo | lets you cancel or undo your last word command or action |
White space | space between documents in a page |
Word Wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
