Term | Definition |

Backstage View | the view that opens when you click File tab. contains commands for managing the backstage view files, setting program options and printing |
I-Beam | when you place your cursor near it, the insertion point changes to a large “I,” which is called the I-beam |
Ribbon | it contains multiple commands on different tabs |
Command | a button, list, or other clickable option on the Ribbon |
Dialog Box | prompts the user for additional information |
Group | collections of related Word commands. for example, Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles,and Editing. each group contains one or more command icons, some of which have a drop-down menu or a list of options associated with them |
Dialog Box Launcher | on the ribbon, small icon that opens a dialog box launcher related to that group |
Tabs | labeled section of the ribbon which contains a group of related tools |
Quick Access Toolbar | customizable toolbar that contains a set of commands independent of the tab on the ribbon |
Block Style | aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature |
Insertion Point | where you begin typing on a document |
Menu | the menu bar lists File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, etc. |
Mixed Punctuation | requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
Nonprinting Characters | characters for content designing in word processes which aren't displayed at printing |
Open Punctuation | requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
Preview | the page where you can look over your document before you print it |

Save | the button you use to save your document |
Save As | appears as a command listed in Backstage view when you click the File tab. when saving a document for the first time, you need to specify the filename and location where the document will be saved |

Template | templates allow you to configure all of the relevant settings you want pre-applied to documents |
Undo | lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action |
White Space | space between pages of the document |
Word Wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
