MS Lesson 1 vocab

TermDefinition
Backstage View The view that opens when you click the File tab. It contains commands for managing backstage view files.
Command A button, list, or other clickable option on the Ribbon.
Dialog Box A box that prompts the user for additional information when issuing a command.
Dialog Box Launcher A small arrow in the bottom right corner of the command group.
Deep Down Arrow An arrow that sends you to the bottom of the word document.
Drop Down list A list that appears once a drop down arrow is clicked that allows you to choose from available options.
File Tab A tab that opens the backstage view.
Groups A collection of commands that are in a tab on the ribbon.
I Beam What happens when you're typing on the insertion point.
Key Tip A letter or number that appears next to a key tip on screen tool.
Ribbon Contains multiple commands on separate tabs.
Screen Tip A hint that pops up on the screen giving a description of a command, or command tab or group on the Ribbon
Tab A part of the Ribbon that shows different command groups.
Text Box The area in which you can type.
Zoom Allows you to zoom in and out of the word document.
Quick Access Toolbar Customizable toolbar that contains a set of commands that are independent of the tab on the ribbon.
Preview A way to see what your document will look like.
Insertion Point The area in which you can type.
Nonprinting characters characters that aren't on your keyboard.
Print shows a screen that allows you to print a document located in the background view
Save Saves the document you have, or updates an already saved document.
Save as Saves a document to your files. Located in the background view.
Undo Reverses a command or text you have selected.
White Space Blank Spaces around the document.
Word Wrap a feature that automatically moves a word that is too long to fit on a line to the beginning of the next line.
Template An already made document you can customize to your own uses.
Settings Allow you to change areas and options of the document and microsoft word.
Repeat Redos something you have undone.
Menu A clickable option or command.
Block Style Moving all the text to the left. Used for formal writing.
Mixed Punctuation you add a colon to the end of a salutation in your documents.
Open Punctuation you do not add a colon to the end of a salutation in your documents.
