Understand Digital Communication Products

Graphic Combining text and pictures in advertisement, magazine or books
Bleed The side of a document that gives printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies.
Caption A brief explanation of a illustration
Dropped Cap When the first character of a paragraph is made larger taking up several lines.
Pull Quote a brief, attention-catching quote is a distinctive typeface
Sidebar A short article placed on the side containing additional or related information to the reading
End mark A punctuation mark occurring at the end of a sentence
Nameplate Top portion of the first page of the document that contains information
Main Heading A word or phrase that explains what the reading is going ot be about
Subheading Any heading under the main heading of a reading
Byline A credit line in an article for the author
Kicker A short-lead in phrase to a narrative or chapter
Deck Short article summary that accompanies the heading of an article
Body Contains most of the information in a reading
Jumpline The line after or before an article telling you where an article continues on or where it began
Running Header/Footer A brief version of the titer of your paper normally less than 50 characters long
