What is Maslow's Hierachy of Needs? physiological, safety (lower order needs, satisfied externally) social, esteem, self-actualization (higher order needs, satisfied internally)
What is the ERG Theory? 3 core needs that people can focus on simultaneously; Existence, Relatedness, Growth
What is the Two-Factor Theory? Relates intrinsic factors to satisfaction & extrinsic factors dissatisfaction
What is the Needs Theory? The 3 needs are subconscious Need for Achievement - the drive to excel and succeed Need for Power - the need to make others behave in a way that they would not have behaved otherwise Need for Affiliation - the desire for interpersonal relationship
Needs Theories Unsatisfied needs results in motivation
According to the Needs Theory, what happens when your needs are satisfied? Your motivation increases
List the four Process Theories Expectancy Theory, Goal Setting Theory, Self Efficiency Theory, Self Determination Theory
What is expectancy theory? individuals depend on: effort leads to good performance (expectancy) good performance leads to an outcome (instrumentality) the outcome is desired (valence)
According to the goal setting theory, what do goals do? Goals direct attention, regulate effort, increase persistence, encourage the development of plans
Effects of goal setting theory specific and difficult goals lead to higher performance
What does feedback lead to? Higher performance levels
Goal setting in action MBO and ROWE
What is self determination theory? Choice - what will you do and how will you do it Competence - challenge your employees Meaningfulness - pursue worthwhile tasks Progress - spending time wisely to do your job
