5.7B-Deltas, Canyons, and Sand Dunes

TermDefinition
Slow changes to Earth's surface Water, wind, and ice continuously tear down and build up causing ‐‐‐‐‐.
Canyon Formed from fast moving water, creating a deep gorge with steep sides (cliffs).
3 Agents (causes) of Erosion Water, wind, and ice (glaciers).
Glacier Slowly moving body of ice.
Mouth of a river Where swift (fast) moving water meets an ocean or lake.
Valley Formed when a glacier or moving water erodes land between mountains.
Sand Dunes Formed when wind blows sand around.
Landforms Natural feature on Earth’s surface.
Erosion Process that carries sediments away.
Delta Formed when sediments are deposited where a river meets a lake or ocean.
Deposition When sediments are deposited (dropped off).
Cementation Minerals stick sediments together like glue or cement.
Weathering The breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces called sediments.
Compaction When sediments are buried deep under layers, the pressure smashes them together in a process called ‐‐‐‐‐.
Sediments Small pieces of organic (living) and inorganic (non‐ living) material that have been broken down by weathering of rock.
