Developmental Domain

Vocabulary Acquisition

TermDefinition
cognitive development Growth in the mental processes used to gain knowledge, such as thought, reasoning, and imagination.
developmental domains Physical development, cognitive development, language development, social development, emotional development, moral development
preoperational stage According to Piaget, it is the period between the ages of 2 and 7, during which children learn to classify groups and use symbols and internal images.
regressive Returning to a former or less developed state.
fine-motor The ability to coordinate the small muscles in the arms, fingers, and wrists to complete tasks such as grasping, holding, cutting, drawing, and writing.
gross-motor Improvement of the skills involving arms, legs, and whole body movements, such as running, jumping, throwing, and climbing.
articulation The ability to talk in clearly pronounced sounds.
rote counting Reciting numbers in their proper order.
