Formatting a Research Paper

TermDefinition
Bibliography Source at the end of a document but only from books.
Bookmark A location or selection of text that you name and identify for future reference
Caption Line of text that describes an object, which can appear above or below the object it describes
Citation A note specifying that source of information
Endnote A list of citations at the end of the document
Footer Appears at the bottom of the document page
Footnote Placed at the bottom of the page in which the citation is located
Header Appears at the top of the document page
Hyperlink A way to jump from one location to another, either within the same document or to an external location
Hypertext transfer protocol How the data is transferred to the external site through the servers
MLA style
Plagiarism compromising your work by quoting, phrasing, or summarizing outside sources without giving the original author credit
Source Includes all the information about where a specific element of you paper comes from, so the reader can find the original work
Tab leader The symbols that appear between the table of contents topic and the corresponding page number
Table of Authorities Special type of bibliography. Lists all of the legal citations in a document and the page numbers on which they are located
Table of Contents Ordered list of headings in a document, along with the page numbers in which the headings are found
Works Cited A collection of sources that you place at the end of the document
