Artboard | The equivalent to a canvas in photoshop. meant to emulate the effect of a desk by allowing users to work on multiple pages at one time |
Objects | Anything that can undergo transformations |
Lines | What they sound like and the key feature of illustrator |
Anchor Point | points connecting line segments in a path |
Line Segment | part of a line, and what ends up being used in illustrator |
Path | Chain of one or more line segments |
Open Path | Path with separate anchor points on both ends |
Closed path | Path that begins and ends with the same anchor point |
Shapes | what they sound like and can be created and easily modified upon creation. |
Transformations | Movement, scaling, rotations, shearing, reflecting, etc. |
Stacking Order | Order of how objects are arranged on the artboard. Layers |
Selection Tool | Selects an object or group of objects |
Direct Selection tool | Selects individual anchor points or line segments |
Stroke | Visible outline of shape |
Fill | color inside a shape |
Swatches | Color tints |
Gradients | Filling an object with a transition from one color to another |
Patterns | Repeated decorative design |
Drawing | Using shapes and other tools to simulate drawing on paper |
Pen tool | Uses anchor points to create lines and paths |
Bezier | Curved line segment of a path |
Image Trace | Tool that will take a raster image and convert it to a path based on settings set |
Pathfinder | Tool that allows for combinations of shapes |
Effect | Commands applicable to an object group or layer to change its characteristics |
Point type | Line of text that begins at point you click, expanding as you type |
Area type | Uses marquee to create a text box |
Type on path | Allows you to attach text to a path |
Text Wrap | Controls how text flows around objects |
