Schemas (definition) | Includes both a category of knowledge and the process of obtaining that knowledge. As experiences happen, this new information is used to modify, add to, or change existing systems of understanding |
Assimilation (example) | A child who has only seen small dogs but recognized a St. Bernard as a dog because it has familiar characteristics |
Accomodation (example) | A child who has only seen small dogs before sees a St. Bernard and this changes what he/she understands about the dogs. |
