Femorotibial | pertaining to the Femur and Tibia |

Epaxial | the region along the dorsal vertebral column |

Costochondral | the cartilage that connects the bony ribs to the Sternum |

Epiphysis | the end of a long bone, usually covered with cartilage |
Metaphysis | the wider portion of the shaft of a long bone that is found at each end and is adjacent to the epiphysis |

Periosteum | a specialized CT that covers the outer surfaces of all bones |
Endosteum | a specialized tissue membrane that covers the interior surfaces of all bones |
Synovial | a thick, transparent fluid that is found in joints, resembling egg whites |
Arthritis | inflammation of a joint |
Myostitis | inflammation of a muscle |
Orthopedic | the correction of deformities of the musculoskeletal system |
Flexion | the act of bending |
Extension | the act of out-stretching |
Abduction | the joint movement whereby an extremity is moved away from the body |
Adduction | the joint movement whereby an extremity moves towards the body |
Circumduction | a combination of flexion, extension, adduction and abduction. |
Intramuscular | within a muscle |
Osteoblast | the cell responsible for deposition of Ca for bone formation |
Osteoclast | the cell responsible for remodeling and resorption of bone |
Intramedullary | within the marrow |
Panosteitis | inflammation of all parts of the bone |
Spondylopathy | a disease of the spine |
Osteomyelitis | inflammation of the bone and marrow |
Fossa | depressed area on the surface of a bone |
Foramen | a hole in a bone |
Condyle | a large, round articular curface |
Process | a projection off a bone surface |
Head | spherical articular surface on the proximal end of a long bone |
Facet | a flat, articular surface |
Agonist | a muscle or muscle group that directly produces a desired movement |
Antagonist | a muscle or muscle group that directly opposes the action of a prime mover |
Synergist | a muscle that contracts at the same time as a prime mover and assists it in carrying out its action |
Fixator | muscles that stabilize joints to allow other movements to take place |
Cancellous bone | Light, spongy bone found at the end of long bones |
Compact bone | Dense, heavy bone found in the shaft of long bones |
