Week 4 General Computer Applications terms

TermDefinition
keyboard shortcut a combination of keystrokes that perform tasks and commands you would otherwise need to click on a ribbon command to perform
page orientation the direction in which a page is laid out; vertical is known as portrait orientation and horizontal is known as landscape orientation
word wrap Microsoft Word feature that automatically moves text to the next line when you are typing and have reached the margin
selection bar narrow area along the left margin that changes the pointer to a right-facing arrow so you can easily select lines of text
file extension a dot followed by three or four characters at the end of a file name to show the file type
ribbon tab different pages of the ribbon that contain buttons organized in groups
group area of ribbon tabs that contain buttons related to a specific document element or function
format to customize the way a document looks or is organized to fit the user's needs
object-specific tool tabs ribbon tabs that only appear when an object other than text is selected, which contain formatting tools for that object
drop-down arrow arrow next to some commands that opens a list of options for that command
