Term | Definition |

Comedy | A light and humorous drama with a happy ending |
Soliloquy | A speech, usually lengthy, in which a character, alone on stage, expresses his or her thoughts out loud |
Verse and Prose | Verse is a type of writing which may use rhyme and other technical devices that are often associated with poetry. |
Prose | Prose uses units like sentences and paragraphs |
Couplet | A stanza consisting of two successive lines of verse, usually rhymed |
Protagonist | The main character in a work |
Antagonist | A character who opposes the protagonist |
The Elizabethan Era | The period of time associated with the reign of Queen Elizabeth (1558 -1603) and is often considered to be a golden age in English history and theatre |
English Renaissance | Meaning "rebirth", this term used to describe a cultural and artistic movement in England in the early 16th century to the early 17th century |
