Chapter 3 Practical Calculations

What is the formula for a dosage calculation? Dose= (animal weight x dosage rate)/concentration of drug
What is the conversion factor for lbs to kg and kg to lbs? to convert lbs to kg--multiply by .45 or divide by 2.2. To convert kg to lbs--multiply by 2.2
How do you convert from a percent solution to mg/mL? Multiply the percentage by 10.
How do you convert from mg/mL to a percent? divide mg/mL by 10.
What is mg%? The number of mg in 100mL of solution (also known as mg/dL because 1 dL=100mL).
What does q.s. mean? quantity sufficient to arrive at desired volume
What is the formula for a change in concentration of solutions? V1 x C1= V2 x C2
What is the formula for constant rate infusions, and what are the variables? M=(DxWxV)/(Rx16.67); R=(DxWxV)/(Mx16.67) M= #mg to add to fluid; D=dosage in mcg/kg/min; W=body wt in kg; V=volume in mL of delivery fluid; R=rate of delivery in mL/hr; 16.67= conversion factor.
