Term | Definition |

Subdividing | Dividing a large parcel of land into smaller parcels. |
Metes and Bounds | To measure the boundaries |
Bench Mark | A mark on a fixed or enduring object such as a metal stake or and rock, as reference, and is often used as an elevation point by a surveyor. |
Acre | A measure of land equaling 160 square rods or 4840 square yards or 43560 square feet, or a tract about 208.71 feet square. |
Legal Description | A description recognized by law in which property can be definitely located by reference to government surveys or approved recorded maps. |
Metes | Refers to the measurements of length, using items such as inches, feet, yards, rods, meters and miles. |
Bounds | refers to the use of boundaries, both natural and artificial, such as rivers, roads, fences, boulders, creeks. and iron pipes. |
