addition | an operation in which you combine or join two or more groups |
subtraction | an operation in which you take away, remove, or compare |
solve | to work out the solution using tools (models, pictures, etc) and techniques (mental math, number sense, etc.) |
word problem | words used to create a problem involving math operations |
sum | the result to adding numbers together |
difference | the result of subtracting one number from another |
greater than | the relationship between numbers when one number's value is more than another number's value |
less than | the relationship between numbers when one number's value is less than another number's value |
equal | same value |
edges | place where 2 flat surfaces of a solid meet |
faces | flat surface of a solid that does not roll |
vertex/vertices | the point where two or more sides or edges meet |
three-dimensional solid | an object that has height, width and depth, like any object in the real world |
sphere | a three dimensional solid figure in the shape of a ball |
cone | solid figure with a circle as its base and a curved surface that meets at a point |
cube | a solid figure with 6 faces that are matching squares |
cylinder | a solid figure with 2 matching circles as bases; 1 curved surface |
triangular prism | a solid figure with 2 matching triangles as bases |
pyramid | a solid figure whose base is a polygon and whose faces are triangles with a common point |
hour hand | the short hand and the numbers on the clock show hours |
minute hand | the long hand and the numbers or marks show minutes |
a.m. | the half of the day from midnight to midday (noon) |
p.m. | the half of the day from midday (noon) to midnight |
rectangular prism | a solid figure with 2 matching rectangular bases |
