Joann wrote a letter that was 1 and 1/4 pages long. Kassie wrote a letter that was 3/4 page shorter than Joann’s letter. How long was Kassie’s letter? Joann = 1 and 1/4 = 4/4 + 1/4 = 5/4 Kassie = 5/4 - 3/4 = 2/4 Kassie's letter was 2/4 of a page long.
Castro bought 3/5 a pound of bananas, 2/5 a pound of mangos, and 2/5 pound of blueberries. How many pounds of produce did Castro purchase? 3/5 + 2/5 = 5/5 or 1 whole 1 + 2/5 = 1 and 2/5 Castro bought 1 and 2/5 pounds of produce.
Peter was making trail mix. He added 3/4 cups peanuts, 2/4 cups M&Ms, 1/4 cup pretzels, and 2/4 cups cereal.
