Bill of Rights

1st Amendment | Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, petition |
2nd Amendment | Right to bear arms (own a gun) |
3rd Amendment | Citizens do not have to quarter (house) troops |
4th Amendment | Protection from unreasonable searches and seizures. Have to have a warrant to search and seize one’s property |
5th Amendment | Right to due process, not to be tried for the same crime twice and not to testify against yourself. Right of government to take private property for public use with compensation. Right to remain silent, don’t self incriminate. |
6th Amendment | Right to a speedy public trial, right to a trial by jury, right to an attorney |
7th Amendment | Right to a trial by jury in civil trials. When a person sues another person and the amount of money is over $20.00, the case may be decided by a jury, and the decision will be final. |
8th Amendment | Right to not have excessive bail and /or cruel and unusual punishment |
9th Amendment | Rights of the people. Right of people are not just limited to the rights listed in the Constitution. |
10th Amendment | Rights to the states. All powers not given to the national government is given to the states. |
