TermDefinition
Specificity characteristics of transporter; such as size, shape, and change, determine what they transport
Diffusion natural phenomenon caused by the tendency of small particles to spread out evenly within any given space.
Concentration Gradient stating this principle is to say that diffusion always occurs.
Simple Diffusion molecules pass directly through the phospholipids membrane.
Osmosis movement of water through semipermeable membrane.
Semipermeable Membrane water to pass through the membrane but blocks the passage of at least one solute.
Aquaporins water pore proteins
Osmotic Pressure solution is the pressure that prevents the movement of water by osmosis from pure water into the solutions.
Hypotonic Solution cell swell because of the movements of water into the cell by osmosis
Isotonic Solutions same volume because there is not net movements of water into or out of the cell by osmosis.
Obligatory Base Pairing aspect of DNA molecular structure
Transcription RNA molecules actually copies or "transcribe" a portion of the DNA code.
Introns segments of the RNA transcript represent non coding parts of DNA
Exons leaves behind segments that are copies of the DNA's
Translation interpret or "translate" the genetic code and form a specific sequence of amino acids.
Proteome complete set of proteins synthesized by a cell.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
