prestige | respect and admiration felt for someone or something based on a perception of their achievements or quality |
coherent | logical and consistent |
courtesy | politeness in one's attitude and behavior toward others |
punctual | being on time |
tact | The ability to say and do things in a way that will not offend another person |
civil rights act of 1964 | Gave the government a strong legal tool to prevent job discrimination and paved the way for equal opportunity. |
leisure | Time free from every-day job responsibilities during which a person can pursue personal interests and hobbies. |
generativity | State of human development ofter referred to as the "working years"; between a person's late twenties and early sixties; when he or she is productive in the world of work; develops a family and re-examines personal beliefs and values. |
auditory | Relating to the sense of hearing |
work ethic | How a person feels about he/her job and the effort he/she puts into it |
work values | Ideas and beliefs concerning career/work that are important to a person and govern his/her perception of job/occupation/career |
self-esteem | The general attitude toward yourself. It is measured on a scale from positive to negative and is based on whether you believe you are successful, a good person, smart, etc. |
self talk | strategies for building a positive attitude. |
interpersonal | ability to relate to others, noticing their moods, motivations, and feelings; social activity, cooperative learning, teamwork |
naturalistic | ability to understand features of the environment; interest in nature, environmental balance, ecosystem |
bodily kinesthetics | ability to use the physical body skillfully and too take in knowledge through bodily sensation; coordination, working with hands |
logical-mathematical intelligence | ability to understand logical reasoning and problem solving; math, science, patterns, sequences. |
visual spacial | ability to understand spatial relationships and perceive and create images; visual art, graphic design, charts and maps |
intrapersonal | ability to understand one's own behavior and feelings; independence, time spent alone |
ideal self | how we prefer to be; the individual's perception of how one should behave based upon certain personal standards, aspirations, goals, or values |
ethics | moral principles that govern a person's behavior |
life roles | The various parts of one's life, such as citizen, parent, spoise, worker, etc. |
life stages | Changes that occur as we move through life experiences |
gender identity | Sexual identity; a person knowing that their sex is permanent and cannot be changed |
assessment | the act of evaluation |
career | To make or become different; to replace with another |
work needs | Those characteristics that employers require for employment (SCANS skills: basic skills, thinking skills, personal qualities, workplace competencies) |
post-secondary | optional final stage of learning after completion of secondary (high school) education |
AP courses | advanced placement, college courses taken in high school |
IB courses | International baccalaureate, offering internationally recognized courses |
extra-curriculum-activities | fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education, performed by students. Such activities may be voluntary or mandatory. Example: sports and drama |
