Cybersecurity Vocab

TermDefinition
Digital Footprint Information about a person that exists because of there online activities
Cybersecurity The protection of internet-connected systems such as hardware, software and data from cyberthreats
Virus A piece of code which is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data
Copyright infringement When a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, without the permission of the copyright owner.
Plagiarism The practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own
Digital etiquette Rules about the proper and polite way to communicate with other people when you're using the Internet
Hacker A person who uses computers to gain unauthorized access to data
Cyber warfare The action to attack and attempt to damage another nation's computers or information networks
Cryptography Secure communications techniques that allow only the sender and intended recipient of a message to view its contents
Ethics Moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity
Infringement Violation, a breach, or an unauthorized act
CAPTCHA A category of technologies used to ensure that a human is making an online transaction rather than a computer
