Community Development This is when local people come together to IDENTIFY THE MAIN PROBLEMS in their area and develop a PLAN TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS. It involves local people regenerating their area in a number of ways, often by starting a local community business.

What type of supports does the LEADER programme provide? LEADER is a programme jointly funded by the EU and the Irish government, which helps rural communities to develop community businesses suitable to their area.
What projects does LEADER provide funding to? • Rural tourism • Bringing broadband to rural areas • Environmental projects that protect water or develop renewable energy • Artisan food producers.
What services does the LEADER programme offer? 1. It offers advice about the viability of the business idea, and how to proceed. This advice includes analysing the costs, how to market/promote the business, etc. 2. It provides grants to help pay for equipment and materials needed.
