Canvas Google Drive and Docs--Creating and Sharing, Text Basics
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Word processor | An application used to create electronic documents. Examples are Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Apple Pages. |
Insertion point | The blinking line in an electronic document that indicates where the next character will be typed. |
Select | To indicate for the computer what folder, file, text, image, or table the next action is going to affect. |
Cut | To remove text or items from an electronic document that may be placed elsewhere. |
Copy | To duplicate text or items from an electronic document that may be placed elsewhere. |
Paste | To place cut or copied data into an electronic document. |
Drag and drop | A way of using a pointer to move selected items to a different location. |
Keyboard shortcuts | Combinations of keys used to perform special actions like cutting, copying or pasting instead of by using menus or pointers |
Find and replace | A way of finding all instances of a word or phrase in a document and replacing one or all of them with another word or phrase without retyping. |
Interface | The method used to monitor and control a device or app, like dials, buttons, keyboards, pointers, screens, menus, icons, and so on. |
Format | To control the appearance and behavior of a document or the elements it contains, like text, images, or tables. |

Orientation | The basic vertical or horizontal layout of a page. |
Portrait | The vertical orientation of a page. |
Landscape | The horizontal orientation of a page. |
Horizontal | Side to side, like the horizon. |

Share | To make an electronic document able to be edited, commented on, or viewed by others |
