central | situated near the center of the body (spinal cord is central to the sciatic nerve) |

distal | father from the center of the body |
dorsal | denoting a position more toward the spine |
extension | straightening (a joint) |
lateral | on the side, away from the median plane |
medial | toward the median plane |
oblique | at an angle |
palmar | the undersurface of the thorax limb |
peripheral | the out most part, or surface of an organ or part |
plantar | the undersurface of the pelvic limb |
prone, pronation | laying face down (in ventral recumbency) |
proximal | closer to the center of the body |
recumbent | lying down |
rostal | toward the nose |
superficial | surface of the body |
supine, supination | lying face up (in a dorsal recumbency) |
ventral | a position more toward the abdomen |
occlusal | the chewing or biting surface |
buccal | tooth surface toward the cheek |
lingual | tooth surface toward the tongue |
contact | tooth surface facing an opposing tooth |
mesial | tooth surface closest to the midline |
