What is the setting? A forest with two roads meeting in it
What is the mood of the poet? Reflective - shown by 'Long I stood' Mood of Anxiousness shown by 'I shall be telling this with a sigh'
What is the difference between the two roads? 'One was grassy and wanted wear'
Which road does the poet take? He took the road that 'was grassy and wanted wear' because he felt attracted by the fact that few had travelled that road
What is Imagery? creating pictures in the reader's head using words eg. 'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood'
What is Sibilance? Using 's' sounds to create a sense of quietness eg. 'Somewhere ages and ages hence'
What is Alliteration? When two or more words beside each other begin with the same letter eg. 'telling this'
What is Repetition? Using the same word/phrase more than once eg. 'Two roads diverged,' 'ages,' 'I,'
What is Assonance? Repeated vowel sounds eg. 'Long I stood' where the 'o' creates a serious or reflective mood. The poet is seriously trying to come to a decision about which road he should take
What is Personification? Giving human qualities to an object eg. the road 'wanted wear' which gives the impression that the road was speaking to the poet
What is Colloquial language? Using language which is characteristic of an area eg. 'As for that'. The poet means that there was very little difference between the two roads
